Investing in the Future of Nevis
The district has worked carefully to ensure that the proposed $41.55 million bond referendum reflects residents' priorities and provides high value for taxpayer investment in our school.
If approved by voters, this investment in Nevis School would be supported by a property tax increase that would take effect in 2026 and last approximately 21 years.
Your individual tax impact will depend on the value of the property you own. For example, a home valued at $200,000 would see an estimated property tax increase of about $39 per month starting in 2026. For a $350,000 residential home, it would cost about $77 per month.

Property Tax Base
The Nevis (ISD #308) tax base is made up of 7% qualifying agricultural land. The State Agricultural Credit is currently set at 70%, as a result, the State pays approximately 5% of existing and future debt service levies for the district.
Tax Credit Programs
Below are two programs that have the potential to reduce the tax impact of the referendum. These programs both require the annual submission of the M1PR form. Learn more here.
Homestead Credit Refund (aka “Circuit Breaker”)
If your household income is less than approximately $140,000, you may qualify for the Homestead Credit Refund (also known as the “Circuit Breaker” refund). This program is intended to reduce the tax burdens for homeowners with lower incomes and relatively high property tax burdens.
For example, if you own a home valued at $200,000 in the City of Nevis and your annual household income is $100,000, the Circuit Breaker credit could reduce the impact of the referendum from $471 to $255 (a reduction of $216). The refund will vary depending on the city or township in which you reside.
Special Refund (One Time)
If your total property taxes increase by more than 12% and more than $100 from one year to the next, you may qualify for a state refund equal to a portion of the increase.
There is no income limit for this refund and the maximum refund is $1,000.
